Nancy Please

Since its premiere at this yearâ€TMs Tribeca Film Festival, Andrew Semansâ€TMs truly original psychodrama NANCY, PLEASE has been wowing audiences with its riveting cast and oddball premise. After moving in with his girlfriend, Yale PhD candidate Paul Brawley (Will Rogers â€" featured in last yearâ€TMs Santa Fe IFF hit â€oeHappy New Year”) realizes heâ€TMs forgotten his copy of â€oeLittle Dorrit” back at his other apartment. Doesnâ€TMt sound like the premise for a suspenseful satire until one factors in that Paulâ€TMs dissertation is dependent on his handwritten notes in the margins of the book â€" and that his ex-roommate Nancy is a bit of a passive-aggressive psychopath. What Semans calls an exploration of the â€oeperverse allure of victimhood” is also as disturbingly funny as â€oeThe War of the Roses.” Lauren Wissot
